July Is Bereaved Parents Awareness Month

Infant loss. Pregnancy loss. Stillbirth. Infertility. Child loss. If you have felt the loss of a child in any form your pain should be acknowledged. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about the grief parents go through after the unfortunate loss of a child and the kind of support needed to overcome this unimaginable grief.

I suffered a miscarriage in 2014 and it nearly tore my marriage and my heart apart. It was nothing I was prepared for and I was so new in my faith that I didn't have the support and spiritual coping mechanisms to help me navigate the overwhelming grief I felt.

Now as a birth doula, I have walked alongside a number of clients that have suffered child loss in one form or another. I am a doula for all of those moments as well. For the happy moments and the heartwrenching ones, too.

I gift all my clients Pregnancy/Birth affirmation cards with life-giving and scriptural affirmations. One day, I felt the Lord inspire me to create something similar for those have suffered loss. Would Bereavement cards be helpful? I truly believe they can be. I know that in my moments of sadness, I struggle to find the words to pray.

I was visiting a recent client after she suffered a miscarriage and she reminded me how I had mentioned creating these cards for women just like her. I went home and began to pray about what to include. It didn't take long before I had 2 pages worth of printable bereavement cards for anyone interested in downloading. Please download and print these out as you like. I would suggest printing them on cardstock. You could even laminate them. Place them by your nightstand or in different parts of your home or car or work. Share them and gift them. I pray they are a source of comfort to all those that find themselves under the crushing weight of losing a child.

All will be well.
